  • Have a permanent resident status
  • Have lived in Canada for at least 3 years (1095 days) in the last 5 years
  • Have filed your income tax return, if you were required to do so
  • Pass an exam on your rights and responsibilities and your knowledge of Canada
  • Prove your language skills

  • You will not be able to become a Canadian citizen if:
  • You are in prison, on probation, on parole, under investigation, inadmissible or if you have been charged with or convicted of an indictable offence
  • You are being examined for fraud or immigration reasons
  • You are under a removal order (an order to leave Canada issued by Canadian authorities)
  • You have unfulfilled conditions related to your permanent resident status, for example, a medical examination

  • You will not be able to become a Canadian citizen if:
  • You are in prison, on probation, on parole, under investigation, inadmissible or if you have been charged with or convicted of an indictable offence
  • You are being examined for fraud or immigration reasons

  • CAD 630 processing fee for an adult (+ 18 years of age) or CAD 100 for a minor and an adult born to a Canadian parent
